Today’s “Sunday Quiz” is about a very sensitive and important topic. We know that you are aware of the dangers of internet flirting. Unfortunately, since it’s something common in our everyday lives, sometimes we are not completely aware that small, or insignificant actions could have negative repercussions.
So, let’s check some common practices, and what would be your reaction to them. The idea is for you to become more aware and protect yourself better out there.
1. A provocative photo of you has ended up on internet. Now what?
a) I do nothing. I’m just thinking about never returning to school… it’s so embarrassing!
b) You tell to a trustable adult, because you need someone who can support you and help you!
c) You research about what could be done ALONE. If you tell to your parents they would be very disappointed of you.
2. Your boyfriend, or girlfriend, asks you to be ‘sexy’ in front of the webcam. You:
a) You do what he/she asks. After all you trust him/her, and you know that he/she will never show it to anyone.
b) You don’t like what he or she asks for. Once an image is on Internet, it is very difficult to have control over where is published. Your photos could be hacked for example! And once it’s out there, it could go viral.
c) You call your friends to ask for their opinion. They may help you decide what to do.
3. Your friend is sending you sexy photos and asks you to send some too. What do you do?
a) If I trust him/her, I would send some.
b) With intimate images you can not play! I wouldn’t do it.
c) If I’m in a joking mood, I would send them. It’s just for fun, with a friend, it’s not a big deal.
4. Your friend, as a joke, takes photos of you while changing clothes. What do you do?
a) I do not see the problem, it’s just for fun and in between friends.
b) I do not allow it because you never know what could happen with those images.
c) I would allow it, later on I would as him/her to delete them or something.
5. Your classmates have decided on making a video with a provocative choreography. What do you do?
a) I would love to participate.
b)There could be negative consequences to that. I would tell parents and teachers for them to stop it!
c) It’s just a joke, it would look bad not to participate.
6. You found some personal and provocative photos of one of your classmates on internet. What would you do?
a)You would share them with everyone of course! I mean, at the end of the day, who takes that kind of photos? You’re almost certain that it was him/herself whom published them in the first place.
b) You wouldn’t share the photo(s) with anyone! And definitely you would talk with your teachers! Something has to be done about it.
c) Share them with your best friends, but only with them, because of course you can trust them.
Majority of a)
Heads Up! You’re not being careful with your privacy and there’s the risk of regret it in the future!
You have to be more careful. The internet is such a cool place, we know it, but it could be dangerous as well. People hide behind the computers, and some of them have bad intentions. As well, as you know, it is so easy to get an image viral! Be careful with the material that is out there, and with whom you share it. We understand that you have a lot of friends and you trust them but, you never know, and if it’s not them, what about if them, or yourself get hacked! That’s also very possible! then, you would be exposed, and you would experience a sad moment in your life. As human beings we tend to criticize, and isolate people who is exposed. Social relationships would decay. If this has happened or is happening to you, know that you are strong, forgive yourself, you are NOT worthless, learn from mistakes, when the storm has passed you will be stronger and wiser. And please do not feel afraid about telling an adult that you trust. They will help you!
For not to experience that, you must take control of it. Take precautions. Be safe!
Majority of b)
Well done! It seems that you are aware of the dangers of internet. Keep educating yourself and others about it. It is important to be responsible in this matter. And if someone is in danger, do not criticize them, help them!
Majority of c)
It seems that you are aware of the dangers but you are so relaxed and trusting, that you do not take it seriously. You should pay more attention to it. Do not let an image be for a day, do not let your friends take you photos just for fun. Talk to a responsible adult if something is happening to you and/or a friend! It is not as “chill” as you are thinking. And at the end of the day, YOU NEVER KNOW. Remember that once a photo or video is on the internet, once it’s published, it is out there forever! And images can be manipulated as well. As mentioned, there are a lot of possible negative scenarios. It could be really damaging not taking immediate actions. It could be dangerous to trust that much in other people “just for fun”. Be more careful!
Share some safety measurements you are aware of in the comments! Let’s help each other to be safe.
Much love as always,
